KPBSD's Clever Portal
This article is a notebook for the District's Clever integration and user portal. It is not meant to be comprehensive, but instead to summarize and highlight key points of interest.
Getting to the portal
The entry point for the District's Clever portal is at https://go.kpbsd.org/clever. (This URL resolves to https://clever.com/in/kpbsd on the Clever side.)
On all District Windows machines and Chromebooks, there is a Managed Bookmark in the Chrome browser, in the Student Links folder, that points to the Clever portal. On all District iPads, there is an available WebClip (WebClips look just like native iOS apps, on the Home screens or in the Dock), available from the internal app catalog, called "KPBSD Clever" (not the same as the native iOS app from Clever itself), which directs automatically to the District's Clever portal.
Logging in to the portal
At the portal URL, however you may have got there from whatever device, note that there are different ways to log in:
Log in with Active Directory. This is the usual means of logging in to the portal. Use that option, provide your credentials (student number and password for students, e-number and password for employees), and you will be directed to your dashboard.
Log in with Clever badge. Some schools have set themselves up with Clever badges. If you have a Clever badge, and if the device you're using has an available camera to read the badge, you can use the badge login option. (Badges can be particularly useful for younger students for whom logging in might be a hassle.)
The user dashboard, and what the portal does for us
Once you are successfully logged in, your personal dashboard displays, and you are presented with a set of launch links, grouped into categories. The whole point of this is:
- to collect these links into one place, customized for your school and user ID;
- to launch each linked tool or app; and
- to pass on user authentication credentials automatically, instead of having to authenticate with each one separately.
The links are grouped into categories (clickable on the left-side navigator), and are user "favorite"-able to create a "Favorites" category that will sort to the top. Overall, what you see is driven by your user ID and your enrollment/schedule data in PowerSchool--which means that if you don't see an app which you would expect to see, the first thing to check is PowerSchool.
When you click on one of the links, the integration both launches the app (into a new browser tab, or, with some apps like i-Ready, into the native iOS app), and it also passes through your credentials for that app, to avoid having to log in to everything manually.
Troubleshooting basics
The Helpdesk team has access to some troubleshooting tools and may be able to help you over the phone; by all means feel free to call us about scenarios like these:
-
Can't log in to Clever at all. This may be a problem with your user ID in general. Are there other things you also can't log in to?
-
Don't see an app I'm supposed to see. This is probably a problem with your PowerSchool enrollment/schedule data.
-
I see apps I don't use any more. This also may be a problem with your PowerSchool data.
-
My app appears, but then errors when I launch it. The cause of this may be one of a few things. Can you successfully launch other apps, but just not this one? Or are you erroring on multiple apps?
