Bluebook Testing on a Personal Device
This article is a notebook for people wishing to use a personal device for a digital College Board test using the Bluebook testing app. (There are separate articles covering the use of District devices for Bluebook testing.)
Can I even do this?
The Bluebook app does permit, technically, the use of some personal devices for taking digital College Board tests. Specifically, personal Windows, Mac, and iPad devices (which meet technical requirements) are allowed, but not personal Chromebooks--Chromebook devices must be managed by the institution, meaning District Chromebooks.
Also, you need to check with your testing coordinator to see if the use of a suitable personal device is acceptable in your case. Don't make assumptions; ask and be sure!
College Board resources
The College Board website for Bluebook is pretty thorough and friendly, and essentially you will use that to get yourself set up on a personal device. A few key resources are linked here.
Note that the app download page should detect what kind of device you have when you visit it, but you can get all the nerdy bits just like IT does, by clicking around a little at the website.
If you have problems
Please remember that in a support sense, IT's first responsibility is to its own fleet rather than a personal device, but we are still happy to help if we can. If you do wind up having problems along the way, please contact your testing coordinator, and if necessary contact the Helpdesk.
