Bluebook Testing on a District Chromebook
This article is for students using the Bluebook testing app on a District Chromebook to take a digital test such as the College Board SAT or AP exam.
College Board resources
The student-facing guide for taking a test with the Bluebook testing app is at https://bluebook.collegeboard.org/students.
NOTE: You should not need to download the app; on a District Chromebook the app will already be available with other testing apps.
Device requirements
According to the Approved Testing Devices page:
- The device must be a managed (District) Chromebook, not a personal one.
- Chrome OS must be at version 124 or higher. Manually update Chrome OS if necessary!
- There must be at least 150MB of local storage available for the first test, and 50MB additional for each subsequent test.
- External keyboards are not okay, but external mice are okay.
NOTE: The Chrome OS requirements for this year (AY 2024-25) mean that our oldest model 3120 and 3180 Chromebooks are a definite no-go for Bluebook. Per the Equipment Lifecycle Policy, models newer than the 3180 should be fine to run Bluebook.
Opening the Bluebook app
The Bluebook app is a kiosk app; see Use Testing Apps on District Chromebooks for more about kiosk apps.
The first time you open the app, it may attempt to check and see if you can locally save/persist your answers. Be on the lookout for this warning:
Hopefully you will rarely have to go through this step, but if you do, please let your testing coordinator know and if necessary contact the Helpdesk.
Checking version and requirements: On the launch screen, there should be a Test Your Device button at top right, and the app version should display at bottom right.
Personal Chromebooks not allowed
In order to take a Bluebook test on a Chromebook, it must be a managed Chromebook.
If you have problems
If you wind up having problems along the way, please contact your testing coordinator and if necessary contact the Helpdesk.
