Getting to the i-Ready App on a District iPad
This article illustrates how to get, successfully, into the i-Ready Connect app on a District iPad, using the District's Clever portal. There seem to be a few ways to get stuck here, and this document tries to address the most common gotchas.
Summary
The executive summary is that in order to get into the i-Ready Connect app on an iOS device, we need to have the app installed on the device, but then not get into it by launching it directly. (Yes, this sounds counter-intuitive.) If the device has the app installed and available, then we can launch the app "with options" with the help of a link from the District's Clever portal, which is made available to District iPads via a custom Web Clip you can find in the device's on-demand resources app. Further details and mechanics are at Getting to the Clever Portal on a District iPad.
System Requirements
Details about i-Ready itself, including the current year's system requirements, are at the article i-Ready from Curriculum Associates. That article attempts to summarize which fleet iPads are supported for i-Ready for the current year, but if it falls out of date or otherwise doesn't get you what you need:
-
Let us know, so we can update the knowledge base! :-)
- Consult the system requirements document directly. (The above article should link to a system requirements URL that should be current year over year.)
- See the Supported Devices - Apple article, for more on which fleet device models can run which versions of iOS.
NOTE: the i-Ready app may not throw a clear message indicating a version-related install failure, when you try to install it on an incompatible device. If you get "failed for an unknown reason", check your iOS version first; that may well be the issue. The Helpdesk may also be able to "nudge" a failed install along, in some cases.
Get the Web Clip and i-Ready App
You'll find the above mentioned Web Clip, and the i-Ready Connect app, in your device's on-demand resources app, which is the Jamf School Student app.
In Jamf School Student, you will find the Web Clip in the iOS Apps - District container, or in the master listing in My Resources.
The i-Ready app should be listed in the iOS Apps - Self Service container, or in the master listing in My Resources.
Launch i-Ready via the KPBSD Clever Web Clip
If you haven't already, install the Web Clip profile (titled Web Clips - KPBSD Clever) and the i-Ready app (titled i-Ready Connect for Students) onto your iPad.
With these two things installed, launch the KPBSD Clever Web Clip. If you have both the Web Clip and the native Clever app, be sure to launch the right one:
The Web Clip should launch you, in the default browser (e.g. Safari) right in to the District's Clever portal (link has more information about logging in and troubleshooting).
From the Clever dashboard, find i-Ready in the subsequent listing (you may have to scroll down), and launch it. On launch, you should get an option to open the link not in the browser, but rather directly in the i-Ready app itself. Tap Open, and you should leave the browser and launch successfully into the i-Ready app.
