Connect a Personal Chromebook to District Wireless
This article covers the basics of getting a personal Chromebook onto the most appropriate of the available District wireless networks. For connecting a District Chromebook, see Connect a District Chromebook to District Wireless.
Connecting to KPBSD-PersonalDevices
For a personal device, the network you want is the KPBSD-PersonalDevices network. You connect to it using a couple of key settings (see below) and the same E-number or student number you would use to log into a District Windows machine. From the Settings panel on the Chromebook, click the network chooser dropdown, and then select KPBSD-PersonalDevices from the list. For the Join Wi-Fi network dialog:
- For EAP method, select PEAP.
- For EAP Phase 2 authentication, select MSCHAPv2.
- For Server CA certificate, select Don't validate.
- For Identity, use your employee E-number, or your Student Number.
- For Password, use the password that goes with your E-number or Student Number.
- Leave Anonymous identity blank.
- For Save identity and password, the default setting ("on") is probably what you want. (You won't have to re-authenticate with the network each time you switch to it.)
- For Allow other users of this device to use this network, the default setting ("off") is also probably what you want (meaning that other users of the Chromebook will not be able to connect to this network with your credentials, but will have to supply their own).
The user experience on the personal device will be almost exactly the same as it would be for a District Chromebook on the KPBSD-ManagedDevices network, but the network will content-filter according to your account's permissions, and KPBSD-PersonalDevices does not let a personal device see the District's in-network printers.
