Update Policies on a Chromebook
This article illustrates how to affirmatively update a Chromebook's enterprise administration policies, such as which printers are available in the printers list. The Chromebook will automatically receive policy updates in the background, but manually updating is sometimes useful, such as when a device is administratively "moved" from one school to another.
Steps
- Navigate To Policies. In a new Chrome browser tab, navigate to chrome://policy.
- Update Policies. On the Policies page, click Reload policies.
Observations
In no particular order:
- Some policy changes may manifest faster than others. For example, administratively moving a Chromebook from one OU to another, is pretty much instantaneous, but making a change to an individual printer's configuration, may take a little time to appear (usually within 5-10 minutes), and other individual settings/policies may have even longer cycle times. Be aware that just because you don't see an immediate policy update, doesn't mean you didn't do it right. :-)
- If you are doing change-and-test work, you may want also to manually refresh the Policies browser page along with the use of the Reload policies button, if only for clarity of the display.
