KPBSD call-in phone directory
There is a call-in telephone directory available for finding and connecting to District phone extensions.
Accessing the directory
From an internal Cisco desk phone, dial the internal extension 99-6499.
From an outside line calling in, use the number 907-714-6499.
Using the directory
At entry, the system presents an initial choice:
- Press 1 to enter an extension directly; or
- Press 2 to enter the voice-enabled search.
Most people on an internal phone will find option 2 much more useful. You can press 2 immediately after the system picks up--you do not have to wait for the greeting to complete.
At the voice-enabled search ("Who would you like to reach?"), speak the name of the person you're looking for, and interact with the resulting prompts (e.g. "Yes" or "No"). If you confirm that the system has found the right name in your search, it will connect you directly.
That's it. It works pretty well!
Appendix: finding the efficiencies
This can be a very useful tool for an internal phone (consider adding it as a speed dial), especially if you exploit the efficiencies. For a successful-on-the-first-try search (which is frequently possible), there is only one "pause point" that you simply must wait for, and that is right after you speak "Yes" to confirm the correctly-proffered user name, when the system says, quite redundantly, after the sequence of "Transferring to:" and playback of the user's recorded name again for the second time, "...Wait while I transfer your call."
You can shortcut everything else, if you're precise with your timing, and the system can prove to be much faster to use, than looking up a name or number by other means. (Frankly, it's likely going to be faster even if you don't hit any of the shortcuts, but some of us are nerds for such things. :-)
So, here is a description of the fastest theoretical pathway from when you first connect to the directory, to when it sends you to your successfully-requested extension:
- Punch the directory's speed-dial button on your phone.
-
As soon as you hear the call connection open, punch the 2 button on the keypad. You do not have to wait for the full greeting and option choice to complete.
-
As soon as you hear the voice begin to ask the "Who..." question, speak your requested name clearly. You do not have to wait for the full "Who would you like to reach?" question to complete.
-
As soon as you hear the requested name/voice begin stating the correct requested name, say "Yes" clearly. You do not have to wait for the name to finish, nor for the subsequent "...Is that correct?" question from the system.
With that, you do have to wait for the "pause point" described above, but honestly even with the "...Wait while I transfer your call" redundancy, that's not too shabby, and for some of us, that's by far the most efficient way to get a call going to someone for whom you have a name, but no extension.
Happy directory-ing!
